What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is about someone independent helping you get your voice heard.

An advocate is trained to support you.

It does not cost to have an advocate.

An advocate can:

  • Find information

  • Help you understand your rights

  • Listen to you

I want

  • Help you say what you want

An advocate cannot:

  • Give advice

  • Make decisions for you

  • Take other people’s side

  • Be a friend

An advocate will not tell anyone what you said unless you want them to.

Or unless you, or someone else may be at risk.
